The Schinderhannes Cycle Path

38 km of non-stop cycling fun for young and old is on offer on the cycle path along the former railway lines between Emmelshausen, Kastellaun and Simmern/Hsr. Far away from the busy streets, you can cycle through the wonderful landscape with fantastic views of the Hunsrück heights.

Schinderhannes Lower Moselle Cycle Path

The Schinderhannes Lower Moselle cycle path leads from Hunsrück heights into the Moselle valley. The path gently heads downhill and there are only a few uphill climbs which are a little more tiring. The last 2km of the cycle path lead through the steep serpentines into the river valley. There are fantastic views over the Moselle and Baybach valleys, vineyards, the Moselle castles and castle Bischofstein along the way.

Loreley Tour with the Hunsrück Railway

The journey goes downhill to Oberwesel am Rhein before continuing past the legendary Loreley to St. Goar. You can view Burg Rheinfels, the largest fortress in the central Rhine. The journey then continues on the Rhine cycle path to Boppard * and back with the Hunsrück railway.

Ehrbach Valley

The whole of the Ehrbach valley can be discovered within around four hours on foot. It runs for approximately 17 kilometres from Emmelshausen on the Hunsrück through to Brodenbach on the Moselle. In the gorge itself you can climb to your heart’s content. The route is carved into the rock in parts, leads over bridges, past cliffs and steep overhangs.

Baybach Valley

You can also climb around the high cliffs in the Baybach valley but you will have to have had some experience with climbing. The actual Baybach valley is a narrow gorge where the sides of the cliffs grow from the valley bed as high as a church tower.

Waldforum Roskerbach

The former outdoor swimming pool area at Beulich has been restored and has become a real gem. Perfectly situated in the Rosker valley it offers the perfect opportunity to have a picnic. Your children can play to their heart’s content in the stream and mess around in the dirt. Remember to take a spare set of clothes! There is also a large sand pit and a habitat learning trail.

Coming from Gondershausen (L206) turn off to the left short before Beulich at the birches. The route is then signposted.

 

Schmiedelpark Nannhausen

The varied recreation ground covering 60,000m² is open to the public. The Schmiedelpark offers you a variety of leisure activities: small animal zoo, playing areas, biotope, senses trail, riding course, mountain bike courses, BBQ areas, gastronomy pavilion and much more.

Barefoot Trail at Bad Sobernheim

The longest and oldest barefoot trail in Germany is a popular with day trippers in Rhineland-Palatinate. The varied round tour is 3.5km long and leads over fields and many other surfaces through the river plains. The highlight is a trail through the Nahe River which you can accomplish with the help of a rope.

You can experience a demanding climbing route as a sporty alternative to the Rhine-Burgen walking routes on the left of the Rhine. A total of 11 climbing sections can be conquered on steep cliff walls which switch between secured sections and narrow trails. It is advisable to use climbing equipment, which you can hire here.

The only way is up once again. It is not as difficult as the Central Rhine rope climbing route and is also suitable for smaller children and inexperienced climbers.
