The Valley

Walking fans in Hunsrück are always rewarded with breathtaking natural beauty and fantastic views. A walking tour through the Ehrbach gorge is an unforgettable experience.

The gorge itself starts behind the Rauschenmühle. The trail is carved into the stone at some points and leads over bridges, past boulders and steep overhangs. The Rauschenburg sits high above. The forest trail towards the old stone bridge, approximately 100 metres before the corner mill, forms the end of the gorge. The valley opens up here and leads onto the Moselle.

The Route (16 km)

There are many ways to easily find your way into the gorge.
The main starting point for a walk into the Ehrbach Valley is the "Scheid" carpark on the Rhine-Moselle-Straße between Gondershausen and Emmelshausen or at the tourist information centre in ZAP in Emmelshausen (plenty of free parking available).
Passing by the Baunhöller Mill, the trail leads along the Liesenfelder and the Preisbach through to Ehrbach.
Follow the water through the gorge through to Brodenbach on the Moselle.

Attractions

After 1km inside the actual gorge you can identify the ruins of the Rauschenburg high up above the babbling Ehrbach on a mountain ledge. Archbishop Balduin von Trier constructed the "Ruszimburg" in 1332 as a castle to protect the Ehrenburg, Burg Waldeck and Schöneck Castle.

The powerful Ehrenburg sits high above the Ehrbach Valley. You can "conquer" this from the Ehrenburg Valley with a short but steep climb. Unique in Germany: the ancient Ehrenburg is brought to life on all Sundays and national holidays between Easter and October (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Tel. 02605/3077.
